6th Grade Social Studies

 I am very excited to welcome you to 6th grade Social Studies.  As a Panther you will have every opportunity to learn more about our world and the people.  Please keep this Syllabus in your binder so that you can use it as a future reference.

About Our Class:
 
Together we will learn about geography, religions, history, economic systems, and politics around the world.  You will have many exciting activities and assignments including an opportunity for you to take part in Burbank Middle School’s annual Wax Museum.  You will be provided with many opportunities to take part in various field lessons with other students in our Panther cluster.  Please remember field lessons are a wonderful way for you to get involved and take part in various activities to further your understanding and learning.

About Your Grades:

 Getting good grades are not hard at all if you are motivated, do your work and want to learn.  Below I have provided a breakdown of various grades to help you understand how your grades are calculated for the progress report and the report cards.

Journal   10%
Tests:    20%
Classwork:   30%
Projects:   15%
Interactive Notebook:  15%
Homework:   10%

Please remember being prepared everyday for your class is very important for your success as a student.  This also includes bringing your materials to class everyday. Students who come to class not prepared and do not have their materials will be given detention after school.
Classroom Rules:

1) RESPECT other students, teachers and yourself.
2) Come to class on time and be prepared everyday.  No exceptions!
3) No electronic devices (Ipods, MP3 Players, Phones, CD players etc.) are allowed in the classroom.
4) Participate in class activities and discussions.
5) Use appropriate language when communicating with others.
6) Cell Phones must be off during classtime.
